The role of drive, speaking up and being fearless in our careers

In his short 35 years, Ricardo Gutiérrez, Project Director at Alpek, has held 6 different roles at Alpek and lived in 4 different countries representing it. How? With his team’s support, an unstoppable drive, raising his hand and being proactive.

From negotiating the acquisition of a new company in an unknown language to achieving a historic sales and revenue record with his team in their business unit, Ricardo has gone through everything in his 12 years at Alpek. Take a look at the drops of wisdom this amazing role model has gathered during the years.

“Raising your hand is being ready: if there is a problem and you think you can help, be confident and say so. Raise your voice, take part, show your drive”.

Ricardo always made sure his superiors and the Human Resources department knew he was ready to go where they needed him, be it another city, country or continent.

See doing things you don’t know as a chance to get out of your comfort zone, grow and develop new abilities. “It’s like changing your workout routine to develop different muscles”.

Ricardo admits that, yes, it’ll be tough, but it’s up to oneself to see it as a step in a ladder or a ditch you’ll never get out of. You need to up the ante every time to push your body. The same thing happens with our abilities. It’s also important to remember you’ll never be alone: you can ask for advice from someone you admire in the organization.

“Alpek has trusted me different roles that involve different people and challenges.

We must have courage to face them and an open mind to learn”.
